Seven symbols make up the life-safety set: an exit sign, an emergency light, a fire alarm pull station, a fire extinguisher cabinet, an eyewash station, a safety shower, and a combination eyewash and shower unit. They are drawn on the life-safety plan, the egress sheet the architect submits with occupant loads and travel distances, and repeated on the fire alarm and electrical sheets. Common layer choices are F-ALRM for pull stations, E-LITE-EMER for exit signs and emergency lights, and F-PROT or an equipment layer for extinguisher cabinets and emergency showers.
Size barely matters here; location is everything. The exit sign is 12 x 4 in and the pull station an 8 in circle, drawn so they read at plan scale. The IBC requires exit signs so that no point in a corridor is more than 100 ft from the nearest visible sign. Emergency lighting has to keep the egress path lit for 90 minutes at an average of 1 footcandle. NFPA 72 puts a manual pull station within 5 ft of each exit doorway with its operating handle 42 to 48 in above the floor. NFPA 10 limits travel to a Class A extinguisher to 75 ft and keeps the top of an extinguisher of 40 lb or less no more than 5 ft up.
The emergency eyewash and shower units follow ANSI Z358.1, which wants them reachable within 10 seconds on an unobstructed path and able to flush for 15 minutes. The shower block is a 20 in circle because the standard asks for a spray pattern at least 20 in across at 60 in above the floor, so the footprint on the plan is the zone that must stay clear. The combination unit is 22 in.
For placement: wall devices insert at their mount point on the wall line, so the extinguisher cabinet, pull station and emergency light all snap to the wall face. Use a semi-recessed cabinet in a corridor; the 2010 ADA Standards cap protrusions at 4 in between 27 and 80 in high, and the cabinet block is 8 in deep. Draw travel-distance paths on their own layer so they can be turned off for the construction set.

NFPA 72 places a manual pull station within 5 ft of the entrance to each exit, with the operable part 42 to 48 in above the floor, and adds stations so travel distance to one stays within the code limit. The pull station block is an 8 in circle that inserts at its wall-mount point on the wall line.
NFPA 10 limits travel distance to a Class A extinguisher to 75 ft, which is walking distance along the path, not a radius. Extinguishers of 40 lb or less mount with the top no more than 5 ft above the floor and the bottom at least 4 in up. The cabinet block is 12 x 8 in and inserts at its wall-mount point.
