This is the most oversold conversion on the internet, so here is the plain version. Extraction is genuinely useful and will save you hours. It is not time travel, and anyone selling it as such is selling something else.

Geometry is written to DXF locally, then converted to a native r2000 DWG. This last step needs a free account with no card, because writing DWG is the only direction CADdillo meters. If the drawing exceeds the encoder’s limits you get a clear refusal and a DXF route, never a corrupt file.

You will get the geometry back. You will not get the drawing back, and the difference matters. Plotting to PDF is one-way: it discards layer names, block definitions, associative dimensions and everything else that made it a CAD model, keeping only the marks needed to draw the page. What extraction recovers is accurate linework and text at correct coordinates — a very good starting point that saves hours of redrawing. What it cannot recover is structure that no longer exists in the file. Any service promising your original drawing back is promising something physically impossible.
Not as geometry. A scan contains pixels, not lines, and no amount of processing turns a photograph of a wall into a wall entity — image tracing produces thousands of jagged approximate segments that are usually worse than useless for editing. CADdillo instead imports the scan as a locked background underlay at the correct scale, so you can trace it with real drafting tools and finish with geometry you can actually trust. That is more work than a button, and it is the honest answer.
For a vector PDF, the coordinates are read directly from the file rather than measured off an image, so accuracy is limited mainly by your calibration and by curve flattening. Calibrate across the longest dimension you can identify — a small clicking error over a long span is a much smaller percentage error than the same slip over a short one. After importing, spot-check a second known dimension somewhere else on the sheet; if it reads correctly, the whole drawing is right.
Usually, yes. DXF export is free, unmetered, has no fidelity boundary to trip, and opens natively in every AutoCAD and every major CAD package. Choose DWG when the receiving end genuinely requires it — a DWG-only intake rule or an established pipeline. Both files carry identical geometry; the difference is entirely about what the other party will accept.
r2000 (AC1015), which every AutoCAD from 2000 onward opens along with BricsCAD, DraftSight and ZWCAD. It is the version that writes reliably — newer DWG write support in the available encoder is incomplete and risks subtle corruption, which is far worse than an older version number. If a drawing exceeds the encoder’s entity ceiling, the conversion is refused with an explanation and you export DXF instead. A refused conversion does not consume an export from your free quota.
